About the Manjarbad fort
The Manjarabad fort built-in 1792. The fort is located on the Bangalore-Mangalore highway. It is situated on a small hill in the village Donigal which is about 5 km away from Sakleshpur at an elevation of around 1000 meters, which gives it quite a beautiful view of the nearby area. I have also read that, on a clear day, one can see the Arabian Sea from the fort.
This beautiful fort was built by the “Tiger of Mysore” Tipu Sultan, he named the fort Manjarabad, which was derived from the word Manjara or Manju which means fog. Some books also mention that when Tipu Sultan used to visit the fort it was generally covered in a fog. The fort structure is of granite walls with lime mortar on the outside.
We have to climb around 250 steps to reach the fort. The guides also mention that’s Tipu sultan has also built a tunnel that directly connected Manjarabad to Srirangapatna city.
Best Time to go to Manjarabad Fort
You can visit the fort any time of the year, but my suggestion would be to visit in monsoons because Western Ghats look awesomely beautiful covered in greenery.
I would definitely recommend visiting this place.
